About Owens Corning
After a failed attempt at making glass building blocks, the Owens Corning company was born in the 1930’s. While they failed at their initial mission of building blocks, they did find a way to make glass fibers in commercial quantities. Since the beginning they have remained innovators in the industry and constantly push to improve glass fiber technology. From the Trans-Alaska pipeline and the Fiberglas™ roof of the Haj Terminal in Saudi Arabia, to the high-performance EcoTouch® insulation, Owens Corning’s innovation has fueled a proud culture among all employees. Today Owens Corning manufactures and markets insulation, roofing and fiber composites.
Since Owens Corning invented glass fiber during the 1970s, it has become the material standard for shingles, and is used by most shingle manufacturers. The fiberglass composition of roof shingles plays an important role in protecting homes from moisture and other weather-related elements. We make sure every Owens Corning shingle meets your high expectations through combing consistent quality with long-lasting beauty. Performance is at the heart of every Owens Corning roofing product. Every shingle features a Fiberglas® mat that adds weather protection, greater fire resistance and longer life. The shingles also include weathering-grade asphalt that holds the granules on the shingle and protects the roof from water.
The Owens Corning shingles are a Class A Fire Rating (the highest residential grade available) and can withstand wind gusts up to 110 mph (dependent on the shingle type). With a limited product warranty that can range 20-50 years, the Owens Corning shingles have colorful mineral granules that help reflect the sun’s rays while adding beauty and style to the roof.
